The three pillars include: Strategic Position, Organizational Design, and Individual Leadership. The text describes the interaction of the three pillars of management to be very dynamic and not linear (Gulati, Mayo, & Nohria, 2016). The success of one is often dependent on the others. Adaptation is necessary for the survival of any business and the strategic positioning is affected by the leadership of the organization. The design of the organization itself can affect both the leadership and the strategy utilized. There are a number of different ways that each of these pillars can interact with each other, and the most successful organizations and management styles utilize all of them with the other in mind. In doing so this helps establish and improve overall accountability in the organization.

The design of the organization can only be strengthened if built up by the firm's strategy. I envision the strategy as the foundation and the organizational design as the basic overall structure. The strategy outlines the plan for the organization. It provides quantifiable organizational goals and objectives. The strategy sets challenges for its managers and encourages the members and other employees to perform their best.

Managers hold a lot of importance when it comes to a business strategy and the overall organizations design. They are often the architect of the goals and the designers of the the plans to get there. They will need to determine the areas that are causing the most complications and prioritize areas that are the most beneficial. This takes a great deal of calculation and fair judgment. In essence, they are the ones that have to make tough calls that determine the direction and trajectory of the organization and put in place much of the strategy to get there.
Each of these pillars are extremely important to the overall success of a business. An organization that lacks even one is extremely deficient and will have extreme difficulty being successful. Managers of all types should take note to how these pillars affect their organization overall and ways they can be influenced.
